Putting Things Into Perspective

We want to first and foremost congratulate Steph Smyth who narrowly missed the #1 At-Large spot by just 157 votes to place second.

We’re also so PROUD that voters re-elected Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong and chose Ellen Pinnock to represent in Ward 1.

We also applaud Matt Grant a relative newcomer to Newport’s political scene — on a well-run race where he lost by just 127 votes.

This is a true accomplishment by Matt Grant and, combined with the 4th place finish of a long-time known entity At-Large, signals to us that voters are getting restless with the same old faces at City Hall.

Local question #6 also got the green light with Newporters declaring they’re ready to invest in our infrastructure so we all have a place to call home for years to come.

As for Change The Charter, in many ways our fight is just getting started, and we will continue fighting for common sense reform and standing up to dangerous bullies who spread lies and misinformation.

Let’s keep working together to move Newport forward.
