Help Change The Charter
There are two ways to get Charter amendments on the ballot.
The City Council can vote to put Charter Amendments on the ballot, OR:
The People’s Power of Initiative.
Power of Initiative requires gathering enough signatures (at least 10% of the total amount of registered Newport voters) to get on the next ballot.
That’s why it’s important you sign up and encourage other voters to sign up: so we can easily reach everyone when it’s time to collect signatures.
We’re Just Getting Started
Already, we’ve seen a tremendous amount of interest in our push to #ChangeTheCharter, but we’re just getting started.
Over the next few months, we’ll host meetings and workshops with the community to make sure we’re listening to what types of changes voters want to see before we begin collecting signatures.
